Plant rings are not only decorative elements in the garden - they can also be used to wonderfully attach a slope. Our instructions show you how to do this.Plant rings are available in different colors
A garden with a slope is nice to look at, but it also has some problems. If this has not been worked on, the rain will wash away the unpaved ground. And if it wants to be worked on, many gardeners often lack ideas. Designing a slope isn't really as easy as creating a garden bed. Here you need a little more creativity and craftsmanship.
In principle, you can design the slope in different ways. For example with gabions, with palisades, with a natural stone wall or with a concrete wall (further creative ideas on www.minimalisti.com). If, on the other hand, you want to beautify the slope with plants, we recommend that you secure it with plant rings. This is relatively easy and also looks really nice when the plants are in bloom. The following instructions show you how to do this.

Instructions for fastening a slope with plant rings
➥ Step 1:
To determine the direction of the foundation, you first have to tighten a cord.
2 Step 2:
Plant rings are usually 40 centimeters high and should disappear in the bottom row about half in the ground. So you have to dig a trench 40 centimeters deep and 50 centimeters wide along the line.
3 Step 3:
Now you have to fill an anti-freeze layer in the trench. This layer should consist of coarse gravel and compacted to about 20 centimeters with a concrete rammer.
This layer should be as flat as possible, because then the planting rings will be easier to align later. So it is best to take a board, place it on the frost protection layer and check the incline with a spirit level.
4 Step 4:
This should be followed by a 10 centimeter thick layer of earth-moist concrete. However, only pour as much concrete as you can put planting rings, because the concrete must always be moist.
5 Step 5:
Now press the planting rings one by one along the tensioned cord. You should keep a gap of 5 millimeters between the stones. Then carefully tap the stones into the concrete layer with a rubber hammer and align them with a spirit level.
6 Step 6:
So that the water cannot build up later, you should provide the edges of the planting stones with drainage grooves. Just wait until the concrete has hardened a little, then it will work better.
7 Step 7:
Now make up the gap on the slope side with coarse gravel or crushed stone and spread some concrete mixture on it. The second row of planting rings can then find its place on this mixture. So you should now proceed row by row until the desired height is reached.
8 Step 8:
Fill 1/3 of the individual plant rings with sand. Then there is a layer of garden soil (reading tip: Buy garden soil - 5 tips) that should go to the edge of the stones. Then you can plant the stones according to your taste.
Important: Always secure the construction site
If the slope is somewhat larger, the construction work usually takes a while. If this is on the street side, you must secure it so that e.g. no children can run around on it and ruin the previous construction progress or injure themselves. It is best to cordon off the construction site using one of the following options:
- Cordon / cordons
- off fence
- Warning Stands / warning cones
All of these options are available, for example, at www.seton.de. Here you will find barriers and stands for a variety of different application areas, which either correspond to the central standards or can even be individually printed. You can even have your own text printed on barrier tapes. So you no longer have to worry about someone getting injured on your construction site and you then have to stand up straight for it.
